about

Early in 2020 I broke my handheld recorder when it fell about 10 ft. from its perch near the ceiling at the American Legion in Silver Spring. A couple of months later I purchased a small video recorder so we could record shows at the Garage Rock nights we host at the Legion. The first time I tried using it ended up being the last, since it was the last show we played before the world stayed home. For that reason, I’m really glad I made that purchase even though it seriously dented my wallet and has collected dust ever since.
Because trial and error are my default approach to life in general, I clearly didn’t read the manual and the video shows that fact (if you squint, you might see yourself). See our YouTube channel if you dig birds eye views. I also forgot to turn it on until after we finished our first song. You can see me walking from the back of the room to the front with guitar in hand, undeterred by entertainment decorum because I wanted to give that thing a try. But also safe in knowing that I was at home with friends that are cool enough not to mind. I’m glad I took a minute to hit record because now I have 20 odd minutes to meditate on when I think about the before times. For what it lacks in sight because of operator error, it captures in sound. No, the audio isn’t spectacular, but it’s not that bad either. What it does it capture is that sense of community, the last-minute hiccups and fixes, adulation of friends, Alex hocking cars for Mike and much more. And dare I say, it captures a slightly more disciplined Apollo 66, with less chatter and more music. I really miss playing music with my friends, that chatter in between songs, watching other bands and trying not to hug all you beautiful people in between sets.

So here it is, unedited and imperfect just like us. With love and appreciation.
See you in 2021.
