about
We’re in a reflective mood over here at Apollo 66. “White picket fences” is one of those moments.
All of the proceeds from song downloads will be donated to the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, which helps felons pay their court fines and fees. In 2018, Floridians voted to restore the voting rights of former felons who have served their time, but the legislature thought felons voting would hurt their chances at getting re-elected, so the legislature decided to add a poll tax with the stipulation that former felons must pay all court fees before they can vote. We hope you’ll have a listen and support this effort.
lyrics
You think you’re a good guy
A civilized white life
High by the sacrifice
Of Native and Black lives
Guilty!
You and me we’re fucking guilty
I gotta say it loud
We’re guilty
Oh, Jesus, help us lord!
We’re guilty
Now, with the hood on
Cover your eyes with it
Cover your ears with it
Cover your mouth with it
Now, put your hood on
And smother lives with it
Pollute your child with it
Bury your head with it
Civilized
Colonized
Brutalized
Monetized
Stigmatized
Bloody roots
Privilege, at what cost?
Guilty!
You and me we’re fucking guilty
I gotta say it loud
We’re guilty
Oh, Jesus, help us lord!
We’re guilty
Where is our empathy?
(There, by the wayside)
Where is our decency?
(There by the wayside)
Where’s our humanity?
(There, by the wayside)
Renounce your heritage
